happy easter!

May the resurrection of the Lord bring joy to your hearts and hope to your homes!

There are 4 family options for this month.

Please note that this month is also the month that all students are asked to complete the Called to Protect for Children (CTPC)program, an annual requirement for all parishes in the Diocese of Austin.  We ask all elementary families (K-5) to submit the CTPC worksheets as one of the family activities for this month.  Please read Option 1 below for more information.  Go to the Middle School and High School April pages for links to CTPY for older students.

Option 1: Called to Protect for Children: Kinder through 5th grades

The Diocese of Austin has reformatted the CTPC program for the needs of this at-home year. The  different grade-level lessons (K-5th) have been combined to be one 3-part program that parents can complete with all their elementary grade students at one time. The teaching is through an audio presentation which includes topic discussions and student activity sheets.  You can complete the program by clicking this link: www.austindiocese.org/at-home-ctpc

The program should take roughly an hour to an hour and 15 minutes to complete.  Please take advantage of this program to educate your child(ren) on healthy boundaries, appropriate relationships and being safe.  Note: We are happy to print out the worksheets for you, if you would like. Just email and let us know.

If you choose not to complete the program, please return the CTPY Waiver form below.

Homework: Please turn in the worksheets for each child in the homework box.

Option 2: Watch on FORMED.org

Younger children can listen as Brother Francis walks them through Holy Week, ending with Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection on Easter Sunday. Older students are invited to take a deeper look at the meaning of Jesus' Death and Resurrection, by watching Episode 6 of the "Symbolon" series.

To find the movies log into your Formed.org account.  Then go to :
Brother Francis:    Movies > Kids > Brother Francis > He Is Risen! The Power of the Resurrection
Symbolon:              Programs > Faith Formation > Symbolon > Episode 6: The Paschal Mystery - Jesus' Death and Resurrection

Homework: Submit the questions below.

Option 3: Faith, Family and Food - Cooking with the Liturgical Calendar

Celebrate the feast day of our patron saint, St. Catherine of Siena, on April 29 by enjoying a meal together as a family!

This video will be uploaded soon!

Homework: To submit this option as one of your Family Activities, send a picture of your family making or gathered around the table, eating together to stcatherinehomework@gmail.com.

.Option 4: Learn about the 14 Stations of the Resurrection
During Lent, many Catholics traditionally pray the Via Dolorosa - the Way of the Cross, retracing the 13 events leading up to Calvary, with the 14th station ending at the tomb of Jesus. During the 50 day season of Easter, we are invited to pray the Via Lucis - the Way of Light. This prayer retells what happens in the days after Jesus' resurrection ending with the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, which closes the Easter season.

To learn about the Stations of Light, elementary students can print out and color the mini-book below, from www.looktohimandberadiant.com.  Print it double sided, cut in half horizontally, fold, staple, color, and celebrate!
Students in 6th grade and up can follow this link (
https://www.pilgrim-info.com/stations-resurrection-via-lucis/) to print and create their own Stations of Light book, using some traditional art of the great masters. Use the file  "Pray the Stations of the Resurrection" below to pray the stations together, using your Bible as well.

Children in First Communion this year

This month, children in grades 2- 6 who are preparing to make their First Communion will need to pick up a Take Home Kit from the RE office. You can find the kits in a tub outside the Parish Center.  This Take Home Kit replaces the First Communion workshop that is normally held at church. The kit contains special activities to help you and your child prepare to receive First Communion. Your child will read Scripture, learn more about the Mass and be able to practice receiving communion.   More detailed instructions for completing the centers are inside the kit.

Homework: Please send a couple of photos of the completed activities to stcatherinehomework@gmail.com. Please write "First Communion workshop" in the subject line to help us record your submission quickly and accurately. *Note: Please disregard Step 4 of the "Order of the Mass" instructions, as is noted on the big envelope.

For this month, families with children making First Communion should plan on submitting the CTPC worksheets (see Option 1 above) and this Take Home kit for their monthly activities.

Students in Grades 1 - 6

Complete an additional workbook activity. DO NOT USE THE FLOURISH WEBSITE TO TURN IN END-OF-CHAPTER REVIEWS.
Students in grades 1-6 have additional activities available to them that coordinate with each workbook chapter.  To find them, log onto www.flourishkh.com, and go to your account.  Students can complete one of these activities (usually a one page worksheet) and turn it in as one of their monthly activities. Instructions for finding the activities are on the September2020 page. Please remember, these worksheets are an optional activity.  They do not replace the Chapter Reviews in the workbooks.

Homework: To submit these extra activities as one of the monthly projects, you'll need to download, print out and complete the worksheet. When finished, you may scan it or take a picture of it and send it to stcatherinehomework.com, or place it in the RE Homework drop box outside of the Parish Center.
