November projects for families and students
There are 3 different options families can choose from to do together this month.
Please note:
Please note:
- families in the At Home program are asked to submit 2 projects. These can both be Family Activities or 1 family activity and 1 age-appropriate activity.
- families in the Monthly Sessions are encouraged to do one or two of the activities but are not required.
family options
Option 1
Watch on FORMED
Brother Francis: The Saints, Our Friends OR Mother Teresa: Seeing the Face of Jesus OR St. Giuseppe Moscati: Doctor to the Poor
Families can choose a video to watch for an activity this month, depending on the age of their children. The popular animated Brother Francis is back this month to teach children in PreK to 4th grade about "The Saints, Our Friends" in a 30 minute animated video. It is appropriate for PreK to 4th grade. The second video is a short history of the life of St. Teresa of Calcutta, and is age-appropriate for 5th graders through 7th graders. The third video, "St. Giuseppe Moscati" tells the story of an Italian doctor who was canonized in 1987 and is appropriate for 8th graders and up. We celebrate his feast day on November 16. (Note: This is a longer movie of 3 hours, and was filmed in Italian with English subtitles. However, it is very well done and worth the time to watch it.) You will need to log into your account on FORMED in order to watch any of the videos.
Homework: To submit watching one video as one of your family activities for November, fill out the form below.

Option 2
Remember your loved ones and pray "A Litany of the Saints" together at your Family Prayer Space
If you've been to St. Catherine's lately, you may have noticed that our annual Altar of the Dead is up in the church narthex. In November, the worldwide Catholic Church remembers and prays for those who have passed on before us. On November 1, all consecrated persons who do not have a celebration of their own in the liturgical calendar are venerated, or honored. This celebration is called All Saints Day and is a Holy Day of Obligation. On the next day, November 2, the Church remembers the faithful departed by praying for the souls of those friends and relatives who have gone before us to the Father’s House. During the cultural celebration of the Day of the Dead, or el Día de los Muertos, it is customary to visit cemeteries. All Souls’ Day can be a good opportunity to pray for our deceased loved ones and to affirm our faith in the Resurrection. The Diocese of Austin has produced a short explanation of Dia de los Muertos. You can download it, in English or Spanish, below to learn more.
Homework: Add some photos of saints and loved ones who you want to remember in prayer to your Family Prayer Space. During November, pray the "Litany of the Saints" and the "Prayer for the Deceased" together, and name all those you wish to pray for. Send a photo of your home Altar for the Dead to stcatherinehomework@gmail.com. Remember to thank God for the saints and to pray for your loved ones all month.

Option 3: Saint Scavenger Hunt and Bingo
Learn more about the saints.
November 1 is All Saints Day, the day when we celebrate and thank God for all of the holy men and women who have gone before us, and who are now in Heaven interceding for us. In this activity, families are asked to complete the "Saint Scavenger Hunt" 2-page activity (each person should do their own) as well as play the Saintly Friends bingo.
To play "Saintly Friends" bingo, print out a different card for each person playing (from the "saint Friends bingo cards" file below). Then print out the "saint friends bingo clues." One person can call out each of the clues or you can cut the clues into strips and take turns reading them. Use something from around your home for the markers, like beans, legos or cheerios. This activity comes from www.looktohimandberadiant.com, a wonderful website full of great ideas for Catholic activities.
Homework: Send a photo of the completed Saint Scavenger pages, and a photo of your Saint Bingo game to stcatherinehomework@gmail.com. Remember to thank God for the saints and consider adopting one of the saints you have learned about as the special patron saint of your family.
