Play

Picture
Do you recognize the park above?  That's right - it's Slaughter Creek Park, right down the road from St. Catherine's! We are blessed to have so many beautiful, outdoor spaces nearby, where families can play together.

Play is an important part of living a healthy life. If you or your children are kinesthetic learners (meaning that you understand and process new information through movement), then play is not just an optional activity, it is necessary for your well-being. (For more information on how we learn differently, visit the LEARN page.)  The importance of play in the development of children has been recognized for a long time.  In fact the National Association for the Education of Young Children has published this article: Things Every Parent Should Know about Play
Because we recognize the importance of play, St. Catherine's has hosted Catholic Soccer Camp for the last 10 years, giving our elementary children a safe place and time to exercise their bodies and play with their friends in fun activities, water stations snacks and movie time.

Although we aren't able to have Catholic Soccer Camp this summer, we can still find plenty of ways to play!  The international Christian aid organization, World Vision, has published a series of ways that children can play this summer, and at the same time learn about children from other parts of the globe. One thing is for sure - children everywhere love to play games!

For older teens make time each day to go out and exercise and get fresh air. This can be spending time in your backyard or going on walks, jogs, or bike rides around the neighborhood. Play can even be going to a drive thru movie with your family in the evening.
