september family options
There are 3 different options families can choose from to do together this month. These activities are in addition to the monthly at-home work in the workbooks. Scroll down to find additional activities for students in Grades 1 - 6, children in First Reconciliation/First Communion and Parents. Additional activities for students in 7th & 8th grade are HERE and High School are HERE.

Feast of St. Hildegard - Sept. 17
Cook along with St. Catherine's parishioner Beth Odom and her family as they prepare the meal below to celebrate St. Hildegard. This meal is based on foods the saint recommended, and also features dishes from the area where she lived. St. Hildegard's feast day falls on a Thursday this year, so if you can't make the meal on that day consider enjoying it on the weekend. Homework: To submit making this meal as one of your monthly activities, take a photo of your family gathered around the table and send it to: [email protected]
Feast of the Archangels - Sept. 29
Make the meal in the video below and learn more about the Feast day of the Archangels Michael, Raphael and Gabriel. Download the Prayers of St. Michael and the Angelus (below) and pray them at the beginning and end of your meal. Learn more about angels in general by reading the article "Angel of God" below, by Emily Stimpson Chapman. Homework: To submit making this meal as one of your monthly activities, take a photo of your family gathered around the table and send it to: [email protected]
Option 3: Create a Family Prayer Space and Pray Together One of the most important - and easiest- things to have in your home is a Family Prayer Space. This area can be in any room of your house, but make sure it is large enough for everyone to gather around. To get started, use a green cloth, napkin or even a piece of paper to represent Ordinary Time. Place a Bible, a candle, a rosary and a crucifix in the space. Then, customize it according to your own family. For example, the Prayer Space pictured also has a rosary box, a statue of Mary and the Divine Mercy as well as two mini-Christmas trees, as an ongoing reminder of the incarnation.
Once you have your Prayer Space set up, gather around it and use the "Blessing for the New School Year" file below to pray for guidance and wisdom through the year.

parents
Parents and grandparents who have participated in Family Faith or Generations of Faith will already know that we ask parents to model life-long learning by turning in "parent homework" each month. This year, we ask parents to read a few pages each month in the book "The Everyday Catholic's Guide to the Liturgy of the Hours" and submit the online form below. This book is free to download as an ebook on FORMED, or feel free to purchase a hardcopy if you prefer that format. And don't worry! This book is very easy to read and is well worth your time.
What exactly is the "Liturgy of the Hours?" You're about to find out! Hint* It ties into praying the Angelus at 6am, noon and 6pm, which we mention in the video of cooking a meal to celebrate the Feast of the Archangels.
For September homework, please download/purchase the book, read the "Foreword" and "Introduction" and fill out the form below.
